INTRODUCTION
This 2 – day training programme on the main laws in Occupational Safety and Health touches on the salient provisions of the main 2 Acts of Parliament i.e. The Factories And Machinery Act 1967 (F.M.A.) and the Occupational Safety And Health Act 1994 (O.S.H.A.). Besides the main laws the training will also deal with one regulation made under each law. The 1970 Safety, Health And Welfare Regulations under the F.M.A. and the 1996 Safety And Health Committee Regulations made under the O.S.H.A. will also be dealt with in detail.
It is a programme designed to create awareness of the 2 laws and to make employers understand the importance of compliance to the laws as the basis for creating a safe work environment at the workplace. The course also emphasizes on the responsibilities of both workers and employers towards achieving a zero-accident rate for mutual benefit in the employer-employee relationship. The aim of this training is to introduce the F.M.A. and the O.S.H.A. to participants so that they are able to contribute towards a safe work environment.
