English Proficiency for Support Staff takes into consideration the needs of Malaysian adults who fall into this category. On top of covering the skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening, it contains the necessary elements of grammar and communication.

It is vital for all participants to understand how communication is part and parcel of language. In fact, this knowledge can be used effectively in their working lives. By doing so, they may be able to, amongst others:

• Increase productivity at work
• Improve communication within their departments as well as externally
• Help themselves to improve their own career opportunities in the organization

Grammar components have been included in this program. This is simply because it has been found that lack of knowledge of grammar is why many are unable to construct proper sentences. Some grammar rules are like a formula that can be learned and applied repeatedly. This can be easily taught.

• To increase confidence in communicating using spoken and written English
• To learn how to pronounce some common words correctly
• To improve speaking skills, in terms of being concise, clear and accurate
• To expand on relevant vocabulary and phrases for different situations

• To understand the purpose and correct format for emails
• To learn some basic rules for grammar
• To learn the importance of the communication process, and how it applies to writing and speaking
• To identify and learn from common Malaysian errors
