Objective
- Identify fluid properties associated with fluid flow problems
- Apply hydrostatic principles to fluid forces, pressures, stability and buoyancy
- Analyze the fluid motion in pipes through continuity, energy and momentum equations
- Compute water discharge, velocity and head in a pipe flow network
- Classify hydro-machines and identify their applications

- Buoyancy; Equilibrium of floating bodies, Determination of metacentric height, Stability
- Relative Equilibrium of Fluid; Uniform linear acceleration, Rigid body rotation
- Flow; Types of flow (laminar and turbulent), Real and ideal flow
- Continuity Equation; Continuity of flow and its equation’ Bernoulli equation and its application

- Momentum Equation; Momentum and fluid flow, Momentum and fluid flow, Momentum equation acting on flat and curved surfaces
- Energy Equation; Steady flow energy equation, Correction factors
- Characteristics of pipe flow
- Description of losses (friction losses, local and minor losses)
- Hydraulic and energy grade lines
- Pipes in series, parallel and branching
- Pipe network analysis
- Pumps; Classification of pumps (centrifugal, axial flow, Pelton, Kaplan and Francis), Pump performance characteristics and similarity rules, Systems characteristics and pump selection, Cavitation
