INTRODUCTION
The Uniform Building By-Law (UBBL) 1984(Note: UBBL 1984 has been revised pending approval by respective state government) clearly specified the fire protection systems to be installed. Fire Rescue Department Malaysia (FRDM) will review all fire protection systems (both active and passive) to ensure that these are being designed and installed accordingly to the UBBL, only then the building could proceed to commence construction and eventually occupied.
Fire Safety awareness and education are left to respective companies to implement and often many companies do not give priority to this task. There is a lack of training in understanding Fire Safety result in the staff ignorant of the danger of unfriendly fire.
The course would provide participants clear understanding of how fire could arise in the manufacturing plant hence able to identify the fire risks.
Every fire protection systems which are likely to be installed would be explained from the design and maintenance aspects. Insurance company which underwrites the property is probably the major stakeholder that would conduct fire risk assessment prior to accepting the risk. Persatuan Insuran Am Malaysia (PIAM) provides incentives to building owners when fire protection systems are installed and up to 70% discount is attainable
Fire Certificate Regulation 2001 was one of the measures introduced to impose upon building owners (designated building only) to ensure their fire protection systems which had been installed are function in order to renew the Fire Certificate for the building.
