ARE YOU COMMUNICATING EFFECTIVELY?
Communication skills are the key to building good relationships and network where it is vital if you’re working with other people. People are not born with good communication skills; they are learned like any other skills. Effective communication is inevitable with all situations. You will need effective communication at work, in education and in everyday life. Basically you can’t run away from communicating but how do you know if you are communicating effectively? Here are 5 characteristics of a person with effective communication skills!
- They understand the context
Those with effective communication skills will be able to communicate in every situation because they take into account the surroundings when considering the best way to communicate. They can adapt to any individual, social or culture.
- They are not afraid to be wrong
Having effective communication does not mean you will not be making any mistakes but instead you know when you are wrong and you learn from the mistakes made because you can’t expect to have everything under control.
- They are emotionally intelligent
Emotionally intelligent shows that you worry about what others feel. You are being assertive and empathetic. You will know what questions you have to ask, how to address them, and when it is best to keep quiet.
- They are organized
You order your thoughts before explaining them. You will think before you speak and are not afraid to admit that you don’t know something. Both speaking and writing require that we order our ideas consistently. This way we will make it easier for the person we are speaking to, to follow our argument and find our words more attractive.
- They listen
Knowing how to listen is as important as being grammatically flawless or having a broad vocabulary. When you listen, that way you will not stop learning and you will enrich your interpersonal relationships making you an effective communicator.
