Going on a teambuilding has always been unavoidable for everyone even if you’re working or still studying. As long as you’re in a community or an organization, there’s no running away from teambuilding. Teambuilding is not always fun for most people. They feel draggy when they hear the word ‘teambuilding’ but hey why focus on the bad when you can focus on the good? When I say ‘bad’, it’s not that bad. Well, lame, yes but successful teambuilding means better teamwork and more involved employees which is what the company wants to achieve. Teambuilding can also be fun and adventurous if you do it with a little zest. Just think of it as an investment.
Handling a teambuilding is a different story. As someone who is not an expert on teambuilding, following my team to handle a one day teambuilding was really a fun experience. Here are few things that I learnt when it comes to managing teambuilding that you might want to know.
The fact that you need to be well-prepared is important. Being well-prepared can lead you to an almost perfect teambuilding experience. When you know what you are doing, you know what is going to happen and you know how to handle any drawbacks. What I think to be the greatest fear of those who handle teambuilding is that when things don’t go as planned. Trainers need ample time before the teambuilding itself to prepare.
Knowing your audience is also an important part of handling a teambuilding. Take time to ask or research a little bit about the audience joining the teambuilding because different audience will have different needs and requirements. You wouldn’t want to do things meant for teenagers but ended up with adults and vice versa.
Last but not least, don’t stress over the little things because it won’t help. I learnt that once you are in, you have to stay in till the end. It is a going to be a bumpy ride but hey, don’t let those little things ruin a fun event that YOU are trying to create. Always give yourself a pat in the back when everything is done! Appreciate your own efforts! Even though it might not be as huge as others!
