HSE 003 – Hazard Identification Risk Assessment & Risk Control (HIRARC) (VL),10 Feb 2023

Introduction

HIRARC is one of the principles used in workplace to manage safety and health. Section 15 (2)(a) of OSHA 1994 has stipulated that “ the provision and maintenance of plants and systems of work  that are, so far as is practicable, safe and without risks to health”

Objectives

  • Understand different types of hazards that are present in the workplace
  • Learn how to effectively identify hazards at workplace
  • Understand the main occupational hazard groups and the health risks that certain workplace hazards pose
  • Evaluate the risks associated with the hazards and make recommendations to eliminate or reduce them
  • Determine the appropriate hazards control measures and assess the effectiveness of the control measures taken
  • Appreciate the importance of hazards identification process as a means to avoid accidents in the workplace
